"Leyendas de México: A Journey through the Hearts of Mexican Women in Ireland" is a culturally significant project that aims to celebrate the Mexican diaspora in Ireland through the art of dance. Rooted in research, authentic storytelling, and the fusion of artistic excellence, this project sheds light on the experiences of Mexican women living in Ireland, delving into their migration journeys, worldviews, and traditions.
The primary goal of "Leyendas de México" is authentic storytelling. Through in-depth interviews, the essence of these women's migration journeys and challenges are captured, ensuring genuine, compelling, and heartfelt narratives. The project aspires to create a dance gala that seamlessly blends traditional Mexican folk dance with contemporary elements, reflecting diverse cultural backgrounds and creating a visually stunning and emotionally resonant experience.
Community engagement is also a key ambition. The project aims to bring together a diverse community of artists who share a passion for preserving and celebrating Mexican culture. By engaging the local Irish and Mexican communities, "Leyendas de México" bridges cultural gaps and fosters unity and understanding.
Moreover, "Leyendas de México" seeks to empower the Mexican women living in Ireland by giving voice to their stories, amplifying their presence, and representing their unique journeys on a larger stage. It envisions leaving a legacy that inspires future generations to embrace their heritage and create a harmonious blend of cultures in a foreign land.
"Living abroad makes you a bit stronger and face loss differently. You realize what is really important, like quality time and memories with people. That’s what matters."
"The only challenges I've faced in the 26 years were my own beliefs and limitations. I can't say I've faced racism or favoritism, nothing like that. It was my own beliefs that made me act in ways that probably weren’t good enough, but not because of the culture, not because I was Mexican, not because I was a woman."
"My main challenge is to break the female Latin American stereotype in the world... I am a hardworking woman, highly educated. If I fit into beauty and role gender stereotypes or not, I don't care. That’s not what defines me."
